Weeds affect the establishment, yield, quality and useful life of lucerne. The herbicide 2,4-DB controls weeds selectively in the newly-sown crop, or benfluralin can be used pre-emergence. In the established crop, paraquat, sprayed annually before spring growth commences–-either alone or in mixture with a triazine–-provides effective control of a wide range of weed species.
