Domestic animals are subject to parasitism by many species of parasitic nematode. The extent of parasitism is determined by a number of factors such as weather, pasture and grazing management and the physiology and condition of the animal itself. Knowledge of the epidemiology of nematode parasites is essential for any broadly-based programme for their control. The significance of epidemiological studies is illustrated by reference to ostertagiasis, dictyoauliasis and nematodiriasis.
