Protein requirements for farm livestock vary for different species and even within a species depending on the age and physiological state of the animal. The extent of variation, its causes, and the most satisfactory ways of meeting individual requirements are only now beginning to be appreciated in full. Progress towards precision in formulating rations will be hastened by a better understanding of the implications of protein quality.
