The “International Hydrological Decade,” concerned with water flow and measurement, begins in 1965. It is therefore opportune to describe successful plans to cope with erratic water supplies in an Australian dairy-farming district. The principle of gathering water by gravity is little different from that practised in the Near East before our era, but efficient low-lift pumping and rational storage are new, and could transform an industry.
