The changed appearance of cereal fields in Britain is frequently remarked: freedom from weeds; short straw and heavy yield. Potential changes in grassland can be no less striking. The nitrogenous green sward, with heavy stocking, is becoming common, as is the forage harvester. Transition from poor to profitable grass need no longer be slow: with the aid of new herbicides it may be brought about efficiently, quickly and cheaply.
