Abstract
Germany used to obtain certified seed potatoes from her eastern provinces, mainly from Pomerania. Western Germany now devotes about 65,000 ha. to this requirement, 90% in Lower Saxony, Bavaria and Schleswig-Holstein. Growers are concerned among other things with the control of those diseases and pests that could reduce the value of the crop; the chief problems arise from the presence of viruses, fungi and root-invading nematodes.
