Abstract
Ecological changes resulting from expansion of irrigation in Australia will be profound, and not always helpful to the farmer. Insect and snail vectors of disease organisms will be multiplied; stock will tend to be denser on the ground; there will be greater risk of infection spread. The battle for animal health must be fought with new knowledge and remedies; timely survey studies and research are necessary to ensure optimum use of resources.
