“The harvest depends more on the year than on the field” is an old Danish proverb that reflects the part played by weather in governing crop yields. Hitherto little success has attended efforts to establish a firm link between these variable quantities. The approach described in the present paper is promising; it takes into account the period of crop growth, the fertilizer level and the meteorological factors: rainfall and transpiration.
