Abstract
Young grass is the ideal food for the dairy cow. It is rich in essential nutrients and cheaper to produce than alternative feeds. The chief aims of the intensive dairy farmer must be to get enough young grass for grazing for as long a period as possible, and enough silage and hay to underpin winter feeding–-all from the smallest acreage. By these means milk has been competitively produced for less than 2s. a gallon.
