It has always been assumed that the wart disease fungus exists everywhere as a single homogeneous race to which potato varieties are either susceptible or immune, and government lists of recommended immune varieties have been accepted internationally. Recently new aggressive races have appeared which can attack many if not most of these immunes. This is a threat that could become serious and the position is being closely watched.
