Air weapon injuries are well recognized for their potentially serious consequences. A fatal case of skull penetration by an airgun pellet it reported. The weapon was a standard −177 calibre air rifle that had been kept well oiled but unused. ‘Dieseling’ of oil in the barrel of an air weapon can produce muzzle energies far in excess of the legal maximum for an ‘uncertified’ weapon.
