Abstract
The general principles of physics and mechanics are applied to explain injury production. The biomechanical factors which affect their topographical distribution and pathological changes in tissue are discussed. Analogies are drawn with common everyday occurrences to illustrate the application of these principles. Common mechanical terms and standard pathobiological terms for types of traumatic injury are defined. Firearm missile, crash deceleration, blast, thermal and electrically produced injuries are discussed.
