Abstract
This paper reports the findings of a retrospective study of the records of twenty-three women patients resident in one of the English special hospitals. The temporal relationship between disturbed behaviour and the menstrual cycle was studied for each patient over a period of at least six months. The results, although they confirm the findings of previous studies in institutionalized groups of women, suggest that it may be a particular group of women only who exhibit disturbed behaviour and there may exist other sub-groups whose behaviour also follows a cyclical pattern.
