Abstract
A humane killer will kill a man as effectively as it will an animal and in the past few years we have seen two cases of suicide by the use of animal slaughtering pistols. The first case was obviously one of suicide from the outset of the police investigation, but the second was thought to be one of murder until the pattern of the injuries revealed the nature of the weapon. This emphasised the importance of a knowledge of the marks produced by various animal slaughtering guns and of the value of a collection of such marks and of the shape and dimensions of the muzzles.
