It is a general principle familiar to all fire investigators that the occurrence or discovery of two or more apparently independent seats of fire is prima facie evidence of malicious firing. Cases have been reported (see, e.g., Nickolls,1 Walls 2) in which this initial presumption was wrong, but these have been rare enough to make that here described worthy of notice.
