The article reviews some of the recent literature of the linguistic approach to children's compositions. The results of two research studies are then described and discussed. These form part of a larger project involving a longitudinal follow-up of 50 representative cases. The present work investigates the grammatical structures and subordination index characteristic of 10 year olds.
