Abstract

The recommendations of the FELASA-AALAS working group on health monitoring for fish in research are now available on the FELASA website, https://felasa.eu/. There are two publications. The first one is dedicated to fish diseases and the monitoring and reporting of fish health status. The second one evokes zoonosis, details biosecurity measures (including import and quarantine) and illustrates the practical application of the two sets of recommendations with scenarios.
Most importantly, you can find the two key templates of the recommendations at https://felasa.eu/working-groups/id/5 (Supplementary materials Tables S4 ‘Fish husbandry, biosecurity and health monitoring description’ and S5 ‘Zebrafish Health Monitoring Report’). Facilities are strongly encouraged to use these templates, fill them in with their local data and share with other facilities. These templates aim at standardizing the exchange of information between laboratories, and they are designed to be filled in quickly, with dropdown menus et cetera.
Exchange fish safely!
