Abstract

FELASA starts the celebrations of its 40th anniversary by sharing a new logo.
FELASA is the European “umbrella” organisation of national Laboratory Animal Science Associations. It is renowned and highly respected worldwide as an independent voice in Europe for scientists and technicians at all levels engaged in the field of Laboratory Animal Science (LAS).
FELASA brings together talents in order to develop and implement good practice in LAS.
FELASA also actively promotes the welfare of both animals and humans working with animals used for scientific and educational purposes.
FELASA is:
a staunch advocate of the development and use of the 3Rs, Replacement, Reduction and Refinement, that were introduced nearly 60 years ago as a framework for humane animal research; an active participant within a large (pan-European) network of organisations with similar aims; actively engaged with international organisations such as ICLAS, AALAS and AAALAC; able to have input and influence at the European level by, for example, participation in Expert Working Groups initiated by the European Commission.
FELASA has:
representation at the level of the European Union and the Council of Europe; observer status at National Contact Meetings of Member State’s Competent Authorities at the Commission; front row access to information on LAS related issues; a well-established and highly respected Education & Training Accreditation Scheme for LAS training.
Since its formation with 3 Associations in 1978, FELASA now has 21 Member Associations representing 27 countries working in Laboratory Animal Science.
