Abstract

Laboratory Animals Limited had lots to celebrate at FELASA!
By now you couldn't possibly have missed that this year our journal is marking its 50th anniversary and we had more good news when the new Impact Factor rankings showed an increase to 1.5, placing it within the prestigious 1st Quartile.
LAL also offered 50 days' free access to illustrate to delegates not already subscribing to LAJ what it can offer to those involved in LAS.
Our Editor-in-Chief, Beat Riederer with support from Marlies Leenars, Arieh Bomzon and Paulin Jirkof gave an informative and well attended, popular presentation on ‘How to publish in Laboratory Animals, as the official journal of FELASA’ offering insightful information to prospective authors on ways to increase the quality of manuscripts and also understand and work with the guidelines that make the difference between an accepted paper from a rejected one.
The LAL booth was busy throughout the four days of the Congress and was visited by many delegates, many of whom had particular interest in our newly launched 2nd edition of The Design of Animal Experiments Handbook (No 14). The Handbook was so popular that all copies on the stand were sold by the last morning but order forms were available for delegates unable to purchase a copy at the Congress.

LAL also sponsored the publishing of the Report from the AALAS-FELASA Working Group on Harm Benefit Analysis of Animal Studies. Copies of this Supplement were distributed at the presentation by Aurora Brønstad and all subscribers to LAJ will receive a copy with this August issue. It can also available as a free download at http://lan.sagepub.com/content/50/1_suppl.toc
Grateful thanks to our publishers, SAGE for their hard work to ensure that both the New Handbook and Working Group Supplement were printed and delivered in time for us to showcase them on our booth.
We also ran a very successful free competition for much prized Amazon vouchers (€250.00) and are delighted to announce that Heinz Brandstetter, President of FELASA did the honours of choosing the winner, Eva Schut from The Netherlands. Congratulations Eva and enjoy spending them!

To celebrate Laboratory Animals Journal's Golden Anniversary this year, a special cake was organised at a small reception to thank those who were at the event and who are linked (both past and present) to making LAJ the success that it is.
Part of LAL's activities as a charity is to support Subscribing Associations' conferences by either attending with a display booth where possible and/or sponsoring the publication to print the Proceedings of these events.
As well as sponsoring the FELASA Congress Abstract book, LAL provided funding scholarships to students from Denmark, Finland and Germany to attend.
