Abstract
This study extends and reexamines research conducted by Gibbs and Short on the relation between criminal and occupational differentiation in the years 1950 and 1960. Contrary to Gibbs and Short's findings, that these two variables were positive ly and strongly related in both years, no support was found for this relationship for the year 1970. Although additional age categories were used in the present study, an analysis using Gibbs and Short's original age categories still yielded a low correla tion. This finding is attributed to historical changes in occupational differentiation as compared with criminal differentiation.
