In two previous studies Bennett, et al., reported the development of a measure of self esteem for use in the correctional setting. This measure was tested to determine the effects of social desirability and machiavel lianism on self-esteem scores. In this administration, both forms of artifact were found to be major contributors to the self-esteem scores, and it was recommended that caution be used in interpreting the findings of the previous studies.
