Abstract
The general dysfunctions resulting from the separation of practi tioners and researchers, in the field of corrections are described. The means by which both groups fail to contribute to the development of a scientific penology as a result of different evaluations of a relatively similar frame of reference is explored. The common elements in their respective frames of reference, and the requirements of a scientific penology, suggests the need for closer working relation ships between practitioner and researcher. A general model for evaluation in corrections is presented and the steps by which integra tive efforts can be attempted are explored on the basis of the model.
