Abstract
Claims that short-term approaches to pastoral counseling provide an array of benefits uniquely suited to the pace and the problems of congregational ministry in twenty-first century life. Notes that brief pastoral counseling is predicated upon the assumption that persons seeking help desire an expeditious resolution to their problems and that brief counseling methods make it possible for lay caregivers as well as trained pastoral staff to share the ministry of wise counsel. Indicates that the solution-focused model for brief counseling confronts the realities of time constraints and parishioners' expectations.
