Abstract
Draws on the speculations of Freud and Jung to address the topics of confession, sin, narcissism, and shame, particularly as they relate to certain theological themes. Concludes from both theoretical data and personal experience that the spiritual practice of sacrifice remains an antidote to guilt, an idiom of self-reliance counteracting shame.
