The Resurgence of the Erotic in the Context of Loss: Implications for Pastoral Counseling

Abstract

Examines the universal factors underlying the grief response and the significant role played by erotic feelings which frequently emerge in the context of loss. Identifies John Bowlby's three principle patterns of attachment and describes their power to shape an individual's response to loss and the degree of mutuality in sexual relations. Draws on the contributions of Cordon Lang, Eric Lindemann, and clinical materials to expand on the five content areas of the grief process.
