Abstract
Uses a mail survey to examine the factors affecting the selection of a pastoral counselor rather than a comparable secular mental health professional. Clients (N = 60) of pastoral counselors and clients (N=40) of social workers ranked eight factors accounting for their selection of a therapist. Identifies and discusses differences between the two groups, including referral sources and diagnostic categories of those referred.
