Abstract
Identifies pastoral identity, as expressed in the realities of actual pastoral relationships, as the basic concern for the development of a theological framework which can help pastors understand, develop, and evaluate caring relationships which communicate God's care for persons and the world. Defines the ministry of caring relationships as including the individual Christian and the Christian community, as well as the ordained pastor. Presents a view of pastoral identity and pastoral relationships which suggests both a theoretical and methodological basis for the development of a pastoral theology. Describes an actual case which illustrates the theoretical and methodological stances of the model of pastoral theology proposed by the author.
