Abstract
Presents the case of a forty-eight year old woman to illustrate the dynamics frequently found in middle-life depressions which often form the basis for the so-called mid-life crisis. Drawing on notions of the soul found in the writings of Plato and Aristotle, it is argued that these concepts are particularly important in orienting both psychotherapist and patient to a vital perspective especially helpful in dealing with midlife issues.
