Models for determining optimal levels of advertising expenditures require an equation that relates such expenditures to sales in the context of other marketing efforts and the environment of the firm. Using three savings banks as an example, this study demonstrated that the construction of this equation requires knowledge of a bank's goals, planning horizon, and marketing strategy.
