The Dynamics of Commercial Structure in Central City Areas

Abstract

The “adequacy” of retail shopping facilities for inner city residents is discussed in this article. Do inner city neighborhoods have the same retail store mix as other central city neighborhoods? Is exit and entry of store types the same for all neighborhoods? These questions are examined in depth for two inner city and two other city neighborhoods. Inner city neighborhoods in several U.S. cities are also compared.
