Abstract
In commenting on two articles on fashion which appeared in the July issue of the JOURNAL OF MARKETING, the author identifies some generally neglected early writings on fashion and considers the serious problems arising out of the lack of availability of early contributions to marketing literature. He indicates that the advancement of scholarship results from building on previously completed research. It is, therefore, important that today's scholars capitalize on our rich heritage of marketing literature.
