Abstract
Are fads and fashions proof of a capricious consumer? Are they evidences that sellers can and do manipulate the market? According to this article, the cyclical nature of fashion rests on a firm foundation of individual and social psychology. The author outlines a model of fashion acceptance and oscillation which he believes can lead to a better understanding of both fads and fashions as well as market acceptance of new products.
