Abstract
The debate continues over the relative merits of interviewing by telephone. This article reports an attempt by the University of Michigan's Survey Research Center to evaluate the effectiveness of telephone surveys for gathering information about consumer attitudes, financial optimism, and plans to buy.
The Center conducted two surveys using the telephone to reinterview respondents to its regular economic surveys. The author weighs the pros and cons of the method.
