Abstract
Our program has been working with LD adolescents for 20 years. Each year new students enroll in our program and emphatically state that they are not LD or that they have never been informed of their specific disability. Unfortunately, it seems that the various individuals who evaluated their abilities rarely explained the results to the students. We developed the LD Seminar to increase the students' understanding of themselves and the educational programs designed for them. Our goal was to engage our students as active participants in the educational process by helping them understand their disabilities as well as their abilities. Therefore, we were attempting to facilitate and expedite the process of developing positive teacher-student interactions, and hopefully become, in the student's mind, an ally rather than an adversary.
