It has been suggested that the McCarthy Scales of Children's Abilities (MSCA) is an instrument especially suited for the identification of children with serious learning difficulties. A closer inspection of the relevant research, however, offers evidence which refutes the suggestion of MSCA uniqueness. A question over the appropriateness of the MSCA for classification purposes is also raised.
