Channels of learning for beginning readers appear to require different measuring instruments for males and females. Prediction of first grade reading success may be made if there is an estimate of (1) an intersensory (auditory-visual) symbolic function, (2) an intrasensory perceptual function and (3) a visuo-motor task that stresses intrasensory imagery. Though comparable skills for the sexes seem to be tapped and in the same order, different measures are necessary to do the tapping.
