Law and Order: An Ignored but Essential Conceptual Skill

Abstract

One of five members of Governor Otto Kerner's (Illinois) Committee on Criminal Justice (created as a result of the National Crime Commission's recommendation), and serving as a member of the Organized Crime Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police; the 54-year old Charles Siragusa retired from the Federal Bureau of Narcotics in 1963, after 28 years as Deputy Commissioner of Narcotics, Federal Civil Service. He was appointed to his present position on December 16, 1963. During his career with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics he held every supervisory position up to and including the second top position. He was chief investigator of the Senate Sub-Committee to investigate crime in interstate commerce (Senator Kefauver) from May to August, 1951. Mr. Siragusa was also a member of the U.S. delegations to United Nations and Interpol conferences in 10 countries. Recipient of the U.S. Treasury Department's highest award "The Exceptional Civilian Service Honor Gold Medal," "The Colombo Award of 1960 (Italian American Man of the Year), and knighted by the Italian government for his international narcotic law enforcement work, Mr. Siragusa is author of the book "The Trial of the Poppy" released by Prentice Hall, Inc., September, 1966.—C.C.E.
