Abstract
In her current book, “The Shadow Children: A Book About Children's Learning Disorders,” Careth Ellingson clearly states, “We automatically assume that a first grader has either reached, or very nearly reached, a stage of neurological development that is comparable to his chronological age level. He is given work to do based on this assumption. But what happens to him if his maturity is that of only a four year old? He is defeated before he starts. The simplest techniques of perception, that other children have learned, are denied him.”
