Abstract
This contribution from the Institute of Defectology in Moscow is the latest in a series of studies and treatments being oflered to stammerers in Russia. The article specifi- cally details analysis and features of stammering; the interwoven complexities of stammering and personality; and delineates transitional problems when a child attempts to form conceptual speech from concrete speech. The Institute's findings with regard to age of onset is of particular interest, as well as its findings on parental influence. It must be noted that oftentimes the terms stammer and stutter are used interchange- ably in the clinical literature. However, it is also well hown that all stutterers will at times stammer, but all stammerers do not stutter. Thus, the term stammer carries a much broader base for population studies as well as term definition. —C. E.
