Abstract
The Hancock Committee's Report is not a vote for the status quo. The Committee has proposed fundamental and far-reaching changes to the present system, most of which are welcomed by the Confederation of Australian Industry. The Confederation believes, however, that some proposals are misguided and will have negative effects on the conduct of industrial relations. Three of these have been particularly discussed in this paper. These are the proposals for opting out of the arbitration system; the omission of sanctions from legislation other than cancellation of award respondency and deregistration of unions; and the extension of jurisdiction of the new Commission.
