Abstract
This paper examines the background to the disputation in the retail petroleum industry. It makes a plea that the important relationship between a dominant manufacturer-supplier and a network of retailers is a neglected area of research in the industrial relations literature. A former model which examines the nature of a dominant firm's power and the incidence of conflict is tested in the retail petroleum industry. The model may have application to other areas of inter-organisational conflict research.
