Abstract
Although it is a topic which has been almost totally ignored in Australia, public sector wage determination has received considerable attention overseas; particularly in North America. However, there have been very few attempts to analyse public sector wage determination via the medium of the wage structure concept.
Several approaches to wage structure analysis have been developed but none seem to be readily applicable to the Australian environment. Thus in studying wage determination in the New South Wales Public Service it was necessary to develop a somewhat different approach to wage structure analysis; an approach that may have more general application than those approaches from which it originated.
