Abstract
Social indicators represent a new direction in the application of economic and social statistics. With their emphasis on qualitative factors, perceived satisfaction and interdependence, they are of interest for the assessment of the quality of working life and other labour aspects. This paper discusses the nature of the social indicator approach and some applications in Australia and overseas which are leading to a more comprehensive analysis of different elements of work satisfaction and of their interaction.
