Abstract
In a study which compared the attitudes of two samples of factory workers to their jobs, the authors found only limited evidence to support the view that production technology provides an important explanatory variable for under standing workers' attitudes and motivations. Results showed substantial agree ment in the values held by workers whose jobs were governed by different technical systems. This suggests that extra-organizational factors such as social class membership may be more important than production technology as determinants of workers' responses.
