Abstract
Rollo May's observation that logotherapy hovers on authoritarianism is discussed, as well as Frankl's rejection of this observation Through an analysis of the areas where May and Frankl agree and where they diverge into differing world views, both May's remarks and Frankl's reaction are explained The manner in which logotherapy approaches clinical situations is examined It is suggested that precisely because logotherapy is prone to the charges of authoritarianism it has been able to avoid this danger in clinical practice by clearly describing the task of the therapist.
