Abstract

This article is a response to “The Social Separation of Old and Young: A Root of Ageism” by Hagestad and Uhlenberg. The separation they described in their 2005 article is still evident today. Fortunately, some recent initiatives and changes in family patterns offer a measure of hope. Two such initiatives that can reduce the social separation between old and young are briefly described.
