Abstract

The 48th Annual Meeting of the Histochemical Society (HCS) will be held August 10–14, 1997, at the Cleveland Convention Center, Cleveland, Ohio, jointly with the Microscopy Society of America (MSA) and the Microbeam Analysis Society (MAS) under the title Microscopy & Microanalysis '97. The headquarters hotel for the Histochemical Society will be the Sheraton Cleveland City Centre.
The program is to be preceded by a two-day Symposium/Short Course on Multiphoton Excitation Imaging on Saturday and Sunday and several Short Courses on Sunday. The meeting opens Sunday evening with a reception in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The program Monday through Thursday features an array of exciting Symposia and Poster Sessions in addition to Tutorials and Workshops. Abstracts from all areas of histochemistry and cytochemistry may be submitted, and those relevant to HCS symposia on Neoplasia and on Genomes, Chromosomes & Genes are especially encouraged. All abstracts submitted by Histochemical Society members will be scheduled on Monday or Tuesday. The Vector Laboratories Young Investigator and the Ralph D. Lillie Awards will be presented.
The deadline for submission of abstracts and award applications is March 15, 1997. Direct inquiries to the Histochemical Society Business Office (see Registration and Information).

Histochemical Society Awards
The Ralph D. Lillie Award ($100) will be given to the student presenting the outstanding histochemical paper, whether platform or poster. Candidates must be either doctoral students or in the first year of a postdoctoral program (i.e., within one year of having received the doctoral degree) at the time of the meeting. To be considered for the award, candidates must check the appropriate box on the Data Form and submit, along with their abstract, a supporting letter from their research advisor, as well as a brief statement attesting to their student status.
The Vector Laboratories Young Investigator Award ($500) will be given for an outstanding histochemical paper, whether platform or poster, to a junior faculty or postdoctoral investigator who is within three years of having received the doctoral degree at the time of the meeting. More than one award may be made. To be considered for the award, candidates must check the appropriate box on the Data Form and submit, along with their abstract, a brief curriculum vitae.
Candidates for the Lillie and Vector Laboratory Awards must be first author (but not necessarily the sole author) of an abstract presented at the meeting. Membership in the Histochemical Society is encouraged but not required. These prizes will be awarded at the meeting.
