Abstract

The Italian Society of Histochemistry and the European Journal of Histochemistry have jointly established, since 1999, the Maffo Vialli International Award for Histochemistry, to honor the pioneering and fundamental contribution of Professor Vialli to the progress of biomedical science.
The award is assigned, every two years, to an individual scientist of international reputation whose work has signified outstanding progress in basic and/or applied research on cell biology through any kind of histochemical research. There are no restrictions on the nationality of the recipient. The winner of the award will be presented with a non-pecuniary commemorative symbol of recognition and will be invited to deliver a “Maffo Vialli Lecture” at the 31st meeting of the Italian Society of Histochemistry, 2005. The full text of the lecture will be published in the European Journal of Histochemistry.
The assignation of the award will be determined by a Nomination Committee consisting of the Board of Governors of the Italian Society of Histochemistry, the Board of Editors of the European Journal of Histochemistry, and four scientists internationally renowned and active in histochemistry.
Nominations, to be received by July 31, 2004, must include the motivation and also the position, a short curriculum, and the full address of the nominee.
