Pressed by lack of time and increasing patient demands, the average American physician is also burdened by a lack of sufficient knowledge concerning mood-altering drugs. This article analyzes the various problems associated with psychoactive drug prescribing and describes how the promotional impact of the pharmaceutical companies has fostered the wide misuse of these drugs.
