Arylamidase activities in eight strains of oral bacteria were assayed. Although the activities in S. mutans tested were low, S. mitis, S. milleri, and lactobacilli had high activities. Arylamidases which were specific for proline and basic amino acid residues in S. mitis and tyrosine residue in L. casei were identified.
